My mother's Secret Closet

She spoke of a secret closet; one that I couldn't yet explore. I marveled over its hidden treasures embedded with more memories that the 2 by 2 space could fit. I saw suede and jewels, patches and prints, shoulder pads and flared pants, crop tops and acid wash. But I knew there was so much more to it that trivial textures could describe. The memories they carried were esoteric.

Parties at the casino. Good news. Summers in the 80's. Bad news. First dates. Breakups. Wedding day. It told a story.

It wasn't until I lived some of those same experiences myself that I was finally able to wear her story and make it my own; breathe new memories into them. Like fashion, scenarios repeat themselves. They're timeless. Summer is summer and love is love. And because of that, I believe, fashion and experiences are very much intertwined. A piece of clothing is tangible evidence to reflect on a memorable time.

The red velvet body suit my mother wore the night she got engaged

Wore these pants the other day. Only got compliments from baby boomers; Not sure what that has to say about them

Flared Floral printed Levi's jeans.

Obsolete basic belt

Her going away outfit; bustier and braided jeweled jacket

Sequined crop top, jeweled and feathered tube dress worn as a skirt

Feathered skirt worn at a wedding

Mom was preggers with me when she wore this brown suede dress, open back and tassled strings. Cinched it in at the waist and it was good to go for a wedding

It's only fitting that I wore her skirt to a 90's party at the Deal Casino this past summer
